M&G Closure
In February 2017, M&G closed both museum locations:
- M&G at Heritage Green in downtown Greenville: M&G’s resources and time were too divided, and there was a need to focus again on the whole of the Collection’s needs
- M&G at Bob Jones University on the university’s campus: Constructed in 1947, M&G’s current building is one of the original structures on the campus; the building’s condition requires significant attention. M&G’s board and administration have decided to move the museum to a new building in downtown Greenville.
In the interim, even though there are no public viewing hours available, M&G has placed selected masterworks and objects from the collection in public spaces around the campus, where visitors can see these works and schedule a private tour. And, we continue an active program of loaning to museums around the globe.
We’ve also maintained our interest in our community by continuing to serve thousands of students in the southeast through our Museum on the Move program, Cultural Discovery Tours, in-person Homeschool Days or Digital Lessons for home educators and their children, and Kids Create! summer art day camp. In addition, we continue to offer adult programming including ArtBreak, tours of special collections, and special events.
While we’ve been closed, we’ve taken the time to consider a new M&G vision and strategic opportunities for M&G’s future. To hear from M&G’s Executive Director, visit here. OR view some of M&G’s plans here.
