M&G Update: An Un-Museum Tour

Saturday, October  12 at 11AM. 1 PM, 2PM, 3PM, 4PM

Location: Meet at M&G’s front doors (on campus)

Since closing its doors in 2017, M&G has still pursued its mission of using its Old Master collection to touch the whole person—mind, heart, and soul. The museum staff have been hard at work preserving and sharing the collection, pursuing a new building off campus, and serving thousands annually through ongoing programming for children and adults. For a glimpse of the work behind dismantling a collection to move, take a tour through the process with Executive Director, Erin Jones.

Free Event–must register in advance to attend.

The following expectations apply:

  • Advance registration is required. Register HERE.
  • Tour groups are limited to 25 people.
  • Attendees must be 12 years of age or older.
  • There are no public restrooms available within the building.

M&G Kids: Adventures in Art

For kids K5-8th grade

Sessions at: 11AM, 11:30AM, 12 Noon, and 12:30PM

Location: Lobby of Rodeheaver Auditorium

M&G’s summer art day camp, Museum on the Move, Homeschool Days, and Cultural Discovery Tours cultivate curiosity and creative thinking in children through art! Bring your K5-8th grade student to sample M&G’s interactive and engaging arts integrated programming! Your child will take part in a mini-lesson in art history in which we’ll introduce two significant and influential artists, Sandro Botticelli and Guido Reni. We’ll get a taste of what life was like for these painters and discover how their experiences affected their art making. To finish our time together kids will begin a mini-masterpiece of their own, replicating one of the masters’ works.

Free Event–must register in advance to attend. Register HERE

Class Limit: 25 students

Before You Apply…

Please read the following information carefully.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants:

To be considered for participation in M&G’s annual Makers Market, you must apply. Since M&G’s Makers Market is an event linked with BJU’s Homecoming, M&G has chosen to limit applicants to those artists that are BJU graduates, current and former BJU students, current BJU faculty/staff, and retired or former BJU faculty/staff.  If you fit one or more of these categories, please apply!

Entries:

You may only enter items that you have made or designed.  By submitting your application and photos, you guarantee that the work presented is your original creation. We reserve the right to dismiss any exhibitor if they have misrepresented themselves or their merchandise, for any reason we deem appropriate. If you’re not sure that your work is eligible, please reference the FAQs.

We limit exhibitors by category to ensure a variety of goods at M&G’s Makers Market. In some cases your work could be accepted by the jury, but your category filled. In this case, your name will be added to the waiting list, and you will be notified in the event that space opens within your category.

There are 35-42 exhibitor positions available, contingent on space.

Application Period:

Market application registration opens at 8AM on Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day), and the submission period ends on Sunday, June 9 at midnight (EST).

JURYING

Work will be judged on its originality, quality, distinctiveness, and innovation. The jury, which consists of BJU graduates, may accept or decline some or all the work represented by the photos accompanying an application. All submissions are presented anonymously to the jury to avoid unfair bias.

MARKET INFO

M&G’s Makers Market will be held indoors on both the main and second floors of the Welcome Center as well as outside in the student center and in the Den on the BJU campus in Greenville, SC on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 10AM-5PM.  Admission is free, and anyone is invited to attend!

FEES

Payment of the application fee will be made by credit or debit card through M&G’s website. All fees underwrite the costs of Makers Market.

Application Fee: A non-refundable $25 application fee is due with your submission.

Exhibition Fee: The exhibition fee is not collected until applicants are chosen. Once participants have been selected by the jury of graduates, M&G will email instructions for paying this fee.

Other: SC Law changed in 2024. The qualifications of those who need to obtain a special retail license for $20 from the South Carolina Department of Revenue for selling at craft shows have changed. To determine if you need to acquire a retail license for Makers Market, locate the information about artists and crafters here under, “How to Get a Retail License.”

BOOTHS

M&G provides only one booth size (8 ft. table) for an exhibition fee of $65 and student exhibition fee of $45.  To qualify for the student rate, you must have a current undergraduate or graduate classification at Bob Jones University. Exhibition fees are only paid after the artist application has been accepted and chosen by the jury. Sharing booths is not permitted. Each exhibitor must apply and have his/her work juried individually.

M&G’s Makers Market is a family-friendly event. Participants will be asked to remove any goods not in keeping with this atmosphere.

Each individual is fully responsible for his/her booth, display, and merchandise. M&G cannot be held liable for any loss, damage, or personal injury that may occur at the event.

M&G provides: an 8 ft. table, 2 chairs per space, black floor-length tablecloth, wi-fi, and public restrooms.

By applying, you agree to M&G’s Makers Market rules outlined above.

ENTRY CATEGORIES

The following categories are available for exhibitor application.  Please apply for the type in which your creative work belongs:

  • 2D Fine Art: prints and originals
  • 3D Fine Art: ceramic, glass, wood, metal
  • Fiber Art: felted, knitted, crocheted, woven, stitched
  • To Wear: jewelry, clothing, purses, hair accessories, belts
  • Paper Goods: stationery, handmade books, paper crafts
  • Everything Else: toys, home & garden, artisan foods, supplies

As you apply, you will be required to upload 4 images and a brief description of your work. Photography is the primary way for the jury to determine the quality of your work for participation.  Use images that impress, but keep the colors true, the products in focus, and the photo well-lit.  Images can show detail, the brand style of your product, and multiple products at once. Please do not send images that have your name, your logo, or brand name pictured.
